The ego is the Latin word for "I" and is defined as a person's sense of self-esteem or self-importance. We are all connected to the universe because we are all alive. We all breathe in the air provided by earth. The ego doesn't recognize that you belong to the universe. It cannot know where you are going through life. It sees life as a duality. The ego tries to tell you that you are separate from others. There is you and there is the other. You are either better or worse than than the other. It tries to drown out your intelligence. It may try and tell you that you are unloveable or unlikeable. It's what makes you feel like you've got this horrible secret part of yourself and if people found out about it, it would scare them away. When the ego tries to step in, the inner wisdom of the connectedness leaves. The ego tells you only what is for you, and not for the oneness. It doesn't recognize that we are etheric beings. If you can recognize the idea that we are all one, an ascension process happens. As you ascend, learn how you can move through it. 1. Have the awarenessLike a lot of things in life, awareness is key. Being aware of when the ego slip is incredibly useful. You are able to catch yourself and take back the control. Think of the ego like the back seat driver, and you are the driver. You have the choice whether you are controlling the car. You have the choice where or not you are letting the back seat driver control. No matter what, the ego will always be in the car, so you might as well make it an enjoyable ride. By having the awareness, you become to drive again. 2. Remove expectationsHave you ever experienced a frustrating situation where you expected something to happen that went totally wrong. Or, perhaps you were having a conversation that didn't go the way you thought it would. Have you ever had a bunch of hair-pulling instances happen to you at once? First you get a parking ticket, then you lose your keys, then you get in a fight with your friend, and then you didn't get the job. This is a prime place for the ego to try and slip in. It creates duality and doubt. I may say that you should have made different plans, you hate your friend because of their decisions, you're careless, everyone is out to get you, you aren't worthy of a job. Actions didn't meet your expectations over and over again. By removing expectations, what happen to those actions? Instead, the actions are done as a free will choice. You are basically giving yourself permission for anything to be possible. You are having faith and trusting in the journey. There is no thinking of the past, or thoughts of what you want to come. Instead, is is a mystery. The hardest part is trusting in the mystery. While you may not be able to see the unknown, you can learn to trust in it. 3. Practice acceptanceIt is important to accept that the ego will always be there. If you are trying to destroy or rid the ego, you will be in a constant battle. Would you rather have a constant battle? Or would you rather learn to work with it and accept it? You must accept that the ego is a part of you that will always be there. Accepting the ego means that when the ego takes control and you have an "ego trip," you allow it to be what it is without judging yourself for it slipping in. Instead of letting it get you, you accept it. Practice acceptance by moving forward without it taking over and controlling you. 4. Remove comparing yourselfThe ego likes to compare you to others. This person is either better than you, someone else is worse than you. It also likes to compare who you are now, to who you were before, and who you will be in the future. You get so caught up in comparing yourself that the present moments slip away. To remove comparing yourself, practice living in the present. Some ways to stay present are by practice fully appreciating the moments in the day to day, and don't take things other say personally. Additionally, practice gratitude and forgiveness. 5. Appreciate silenceAs a human's you strive to be accepted. It is innate in our souls. Silence can be a trigger point to an ego trip due to feeling a lack of acceptance. When someone is ignoring you, someone is giving you the cold shoulder, or you have too much time alone in your thoughts, the ego finds that as an opportunity to throw you off course. Try and view silence through a new light. Think of silence as the space of infinite possibilities. It is silence where the magic happens. Allow this time to send loved ones energetic messages through the ether. Have fun with it! 6. Remember it is not the end of the worldIn your truth, you know that nothing "happens" because of you. The ego makes experiences and interactions feel like it is "the end of the world." When your ego tries to take control and makes you doubt yourself, catch yourself. The end of the world is not over some snooty comment you received from a customer. In fact, that has nothing to do with you. The ego tries to take that personally. You know that deep down the end of the world is when you depart from your body and transition onward. Recognize that you play a greater role in the universe. This is a bigger picture way to look at it that may help you in times of ego-driven doubt. In conclusion, the ego is a tool that can help you or hurt you. It is best to have the awareness of it and work with it. The ego is there to accompany you on this life long journey. Always try your best to be the driver and when you get in a rut, refer to this article to help guide you towards reclaiming the drivers seat.
