4 Biological Benefits of Grounding
Think back to a time when you walked barefoot on the ground. How did it feel? Relaxing? Peaceful? Freeing?
Grounding, sometimes referred to as earthing, is the act of walking barefoot in nature. Emerging studies reveal that grounding has many health benefits. Discover 4 benefits of grounding now.

1. Reducing Inflammation & Protecting the Body

When your skin contacts the ground or a grounded object, your body pulls free electrons up from the earth. Electrons are in antioxidants, the best and free-est way to protect cells in your body.

Most forms of chronic disease involve some form of inflammation. The electrical forces from the earth enter the body and naturally lower inflammation. These antioxidant electrons help ensure that free radical damage doesn’t lead to inflammation and rapid aging.

2. Relieving Stress

Grounding helps shift our neural pathways from the sympathetic nervous system state (fight-or-flight), to the parasympathetic nervous system state (rest and digest). When the parasympathetic nervous system is in the control, it is telling your body that it is safe. During this state, you can easily digest and feel peaceful. This state is the optimal state of wellness.

3. Boosting Energy Levels

Grounding is said to improve circulation in the body. When your body has proper circulation, nutrients are evenly distributed. This allows the body to easily get rid of toxins and waste. When the body functions properly, it naturally creates for energy.

4. Improving sleep

Do you ever have trouble falling asleep? Do you ever have trouble sleeping through the night? Earthing improves sleep by balancing the cortisol rhythms. It helps one align with the natural rhythms of the earth and sun. A study found that after earthing, people had higher cortisol levels in the morning (for daily energy) and lower cortisol levels in the evening. Having this balance helps one sleep soundly.

How to take Action

Find a place where you can get grounded and connect to the earth. Let your body soak up all of its amazing offerings. Visiting a conservatory, spending time outside, plant your feet in the dirt or sand, or getting a house plant are all wonderful ways to tap into this grounding energy.
