5 Ways to Eat Healthy When Socializing
Do you ever find yourself eating unhealthy when socializing? More often than not, when going out to restaurants with friends, co-workers, and family members, we are also being exposed to unhealthy foods.

With societal pressures to go out combined with the plethora of unhealthy restaurants, you've probably encountered situations where healthy options were simply unavoidable. Or, perhaps your mouth is salivating at the quadruple grilled cheese sandwich, therefore the healthy "salad" is out of the picture. In either scenario, when you find yourself in social situations, it is important to have the strength and knowledge to make healthy food choices. Here are five ways to be healthy when socializing.

1. research Healthy Restaurants

A great way to reap the benefits of going out and socializing while also being healthy is to seek out healthier restaurants. Take a few minutes and research some healthy restaurants. The next time you have a gathering with friends or go on your lunch break, invite people to try out the restaurant with you. You are probably not alone in wanting to eat healthier. Get your exploration hat on and go for it!

2. pack a lunch

Let’s say that everyday your colleagues go out to eat an unhealthy lunch. You join them, but deep down you hate that you are constantly eating unhealthy. At the same time, you don't want to miss out.

What can you do about it?

A great option is to pack a lunch. When you go out, bring it with you. Then order a drink or a small snack at the restaurant. At first it may feel awkward, however, it is important to acknowledge that you are nourishing your temple!! Be proud of the fact that you are honoring yourself and your body. You are so worth it!

3. Remember this is an act of self love

When finding yourself in social situations, it is important to have the strength to make healthy food choices. Of course, food choices are all about moderation. Every now and then it is totally okay to treat yourself. This is referring to more extreme cases where there is a constant neglect to healthy options. If you find yourself constantly eating unhealthy when out, and wish to make changes, remember that you have the strength within your being to nourish yourself with foods your body loves. Also remember to not be too hard on yourself. Try viewing the act of exploring healthier options when socializing as something fun!!

"
Our bodies are our gardens our wills are our gardeners."  -  William Shakespeare

4. simple changes when ordering food

Here are some simple changes you can make when you go out t.
  1. Order water instead of a sugary beverage
  2. Replace fries or unhealthy sides with fresh fruit
  3. Share s meal with a friend
  4. Divide your meal in half right when you get it. Save one half for later
  5. If the restaurant provides free bread, ask them not to bring any to the table
  6. Order fruit instead of dessert
**Bonus: If you are driving, park further from the restaurant to get a nice walk back to your car

5. Get the whole family in on it

Family parties and gatherings are often filled with unhealthy food options.

What can you do about it?

Let your family know that you are working on being healthier and want their help. At the next family gathering, join together to see how you can make the gathering healthier. Perhaps, instead of chips and dip, have veggies and hummus. Instead of a platter of unhealthy desserts, replace some with fresh fruit. Rather than having soda, make a fun fruit infused water pitcher. Make it a fun experience for the whole family!
