Discover six benefits of eating seasonal foods and how it positively impacts your health and wealth. 1. bETTER TASTEMore often than not, in-season produce comes with the benefit of tasting better. Seasonal foods taste fresher, they are richer in flavor, and they are at the peak ripeness. 2. mORE NUTRIENTSThe less time between the produce being harvested and going into your mouth, the more nutrients you’ll get. Foods need sun to grow. When the sun is reduced because foods are picked before they are naturally ripe, the nutritional content is reduced. 3. Thinking aheadSeasonal foods enable the body to naturally think ahead to start prepping for the next season. For example, many fall foods aid the body in building up the immune system to prevent winter colds and flues. Onions, garlic, sweet potatoes and greens are all fall foods that build a strong and healthy immune system. 4. Experiencing change with confidenceJust like how the seasons change, our lives are always changing. We constantly enter environments that are new and different. Eating seasonal foods, is similar to entering a unique environment. When we are confident and have fun with something new to the plate, we can take that with us off the plate and into our life. 5. saving moneyWhen foods are in season, one perk is that they are often less expensive. When produce is of the season, there is a larger abundance of that produce available. Buying produce that is not in season typically means that the produce is outsourced from a place far away. Often, this produce is stored for long periods of time. Combining the storage and long shipments of these goods, the price gets jacked up. 6. Aligning to natureWhen we align to the cycles of nature, we are able to be more present and live with more balance and harmony. Nature is an antidote to many of our physical, mental, and emotional disruptions. Ancient Chinese Medicine places emphasis on living in synch with the seasons. It even claims it as the single most important principle of health and healing. Eating seasonal foods is a simple way to live in health and harmony by connecting with our natural surroundings. HOW TO TAKE ACTIONExperiment with seasonal foods or come up with some new recipe ideas to match the in-season produce. See which foods you are drawn to? Notice how you feel when eating them. Notice how they taste. May you align with the changing seasons with ease and grace. Blessings, Sydney
